  • Volunteers for Living Barracks project 18/12/2023

    As part of the Living Barracks project, the Record Office needs to repackage, audit, and in some cases renumber the collections in preparation for the eventual move to the Barracks. First of all a short pilot project is needed to establish how this will work and how long it will take, and around 10 -12 volunteers are sought to do the work over a 3-month period, starting in January 2024.  An initial meeting is being held in the Record Office on Monday 8th January at 10.30am to explain more about the project and what it entails.  Do come along if you are interested – no previous experience required.

  • Snapshots of the 1970s 29/11/2023

    Many changes which were seen in Berwick during the past half-century are brought to life in a new book of photographs which has just been published.  “Snapshots of the 1970s” draws upon the contents of the vast Photo Centre collection, now held in Berwick Record Office, and it follows on from two earlier publications about the 1950s and 1960s, all of which have been compiled by volunteers from the Friends of Berwick & District Museum and Archives .

  • Autumn Lecture 27/10/2023

    This year’s FBDMA Autumn Lecture will consist of a screening of a short film and a talk by Jim Gibson on “Kelt Fishcakes, Mankins, and Sods: Salmon Fishing on the River Tweed”  It will take place on Friday 3 November 2023 at 7.00pm in the Parish Centre, (Parade, Berwick).  The film has been produced by Martha Andrews and Jim Gibson, with the support of the Tweed Foundation, and this will be its first screening.

    Admission free, all welcome.  Light refreshments will be available.

  • Literary Festival 10/10/2023

    This year’s Berwick Literary Festival is taking place between 12th and 15th of October 2023.  The Record Office will be participating in one of the many events, “Star of the Sea: Writing Your Family History”, on Friday 13th October, 2.00-4.00pm, in the Parish Centre, Berwick.

  • Heritage Open Days 2023 01/09/2023

    Berwick’s Heritage Open Days for 2023 are being held between Friday 8th and Sunday 17th September.  They offer exhibitions and open buildings, guided walks, online talks and videos, and other events, talks and tours.  Dozens of places and events are available, free of charge, and the full list can be discovered on the Berwick HODS website.
