  • Autumn Lecture 07/11/2016

    David Constantine gave the FBDMA autumn lecture on Friday 4th November 2016 in the Parish Centre, Berwick-upon-Tweed.  He spoke on “Bone and Antler in History and Archaeology”, examining what can be learned about the past from the study of animal archaeological remains, and he brought with him a large assortment of artefacts and archaeological examples to illustrate his talk.  A summary of his talk appears below.

  • Museum at half-term 13/10/2016

    Berwick Museum & Art Gallery will be open during the schools’ autumn half-term.

    Saturday 22 October – Sunday 30 October 2016   11.00am – 4.00pm each day.

    The exhibition of nearly all of the Burrell Collection paintings will still be on display, and there will be children’s activities arranged during the week.  On Saturday 22 October, The Big Draw comes to Berwick and there will be arts and crafts activities on that day.

  • Literary Festival 09/10/2016

    Berwick Literary Festival takes place from 20th to 23rd October 2016. One of the numerous events on offer is a talk by archivist Linda Bankier entitled *Hidden Treasures and Inspiration – Tales from Berwick Archives”.  It takes place at 12 noon on Friday 21st October in the Holy Trinity Parish Centre. Tickets £5, available from The Maltings.

  • Bondagers of North Northumberland 21/09/2016

    Dinah Ireland will give a talk on The Bondagers of Northumberland and South East Scotland, for Bowsden History Group on Monday 3rd October 2016 at 7.30pm. She will discuss the work they did, the costume they wore and the Bondage System under which, together with the ploughmen or hinds, they were employed.

    In Bowsden Village Hall, TD15 2TW.  Visitors £2, to include light refreshments.

  • Heritage Open Days 08/09/2016

    Berwick’s Heritage Open Days are taking place from 8th to 11th September 2016.  Among the attractions are guided walks of the Greenses (Arabs and Fish Tales, Sat. 10.30am) and Ravensdowne and Quay Walls (Georgian Berwick, Fri/Sat. 2.30pm), led by Linda Bankier (booking required at the Tourist Information Centre – 01670 622155 or Berwick.tic@activenorthumberland.gov.uk). Another walk exploring Elizabethan Berwick (The Trewe Description…, Sat/Sun. 2.30pm) will be led by Catherine Kent. Altogether, 19 events have been organised in Berwick across the four days.
