  • More Museum days 21/07/2021

    Berwick Museum and Art Gallery is now open every day of the week until the end of the English school holidays (5 September 2021).

    Monday – Sunday   10.00am – 4.00pm.

    Current highlights include the recently purchased L.S. Lowry painting “Beach Scene” and Jonny Hannah’s exhibition “The R. Good Emporium”, inspired by a real shop which once stood on Berwick High Street.

  • Mardon Farm dig 21/07/2021

    TillVAS has obtained a grant from the Heritage Fund to fund a third season of digging to explore the Iron Age site at Mardon Farm. In preparation for this a pre-dig drop-in event, with activities for all ages, is being held in Crookham Village Hall on Sunday 1st August 2021.  See details below.

  • 410 years ago 22/06/2021

    The construction of the Old Bridge in Berwick started on 19th June 1611, the first stone bridge to be built across the Tweed here.  410 years later, the most recent phase of repair and refurbishment is nearly complete, and after several months of closure the bridge re-opens to pedestrians and traffic on Tuesday 22nd June 2021.  Damaged masonry on the parapets has been replaced, the road has been resurfaced, pavements have been widened, and new lighting has been installed.

  • Berwick’s history in 4 lectures 03/06/2021

    Berwick Educational Association is presenting a series of 4 online lectures on “Aspects of Berwick’s History through its Archives”, given by Linda Bankier on Tuesday mornings at 10.00am between 8 June and 29 June 2021.  The lectures will be delivered via Zoom.

    Week 1: An introduction to Berwick’s history through its archives. This talk will explore Berwick’s unique history using the archives to tell its story from the late 15th to 21st century .

  • Portrait of a Town 01/06/2021

    A photographic exhibition based on the Photo Centre collection, entitled “Portrait of a Town”, is now open at the Granary Gallery, continuing until 10th October 2021.  It gives a glimpse of the lives of the townspeople of Berwick, captured at work, at play, or in the studio, over the last 60 years.  The Photo Centre in Bridge Street was managed by David and Ian Smith between 2951 and 2012, and its collection of negatives is now held by Berwick Record Office. 

    The exhibition is open Tuesday – Sunday, 11.00am – 4.00pm.  Free tickets for timed admission slots can be booked
