  • Coronation exhibition 10/04/2023

    On Sunday 7th May 2023, to mark the coronation of the King, an exhibition of photographs, “Berwick-upon-Tweed, Between the Coronations, 1953-2023” will be held in the Town Hall, from 11.00am – 5.00pm.  Admission free, refreshments available.

    Programme:

      • Photographic exhibition & timeline, 11.00am – 5.00pm: what’s happened in Berwick during that time and how has it changed
      • Children’s activities – Make your own crown!
      • Films in the Council Chamber

  • AGM and Spring lecture 23/02/2023

    The Friends’ Annual General Meeting will take place on Friday 24th March 2023 at 7.15pm in the Parish Centre (Parade, Berwick). It will be followed by our Spring lecture on “Berwick Archives Projects: Photos, Manors and Buildings”: Beth Elliott, Cameron Robertson, and Linda Bankier will talk about and illustrate some current activities in the Record Office.

    All welcome, admission free.  Refreshments available, and a raffle.

  • Berwick in pictures 01/02/2023

    On Tuesday 14th February 2022 at 2.00pm a talk entitled “A Trip down Memory Lane: Berwick in pictures and stories from 1952-2022” will be given by Berwick Archivist Linda Bankier.  It will take place in St Andrew’s Wallace Green Church.  Admission free; refreshments provided.

  • Local history talks 12/11/2022

    Two upcoming talks on local topics are being given by Linda Bankier.  On Wednesday 16th November 2022, she will speak about “Berwick-upon-Tweed 1952-2022: a pictorial history”, referring to the recently published photographic book.  This will take place in the Parish Centre, Berwick, starting at 7.30pm, and it forms part of the Berwick History Society programme.

    On Saturday morning 19th November, Linda will talk about “Irregular Border Marriages”, starting at 10.00am at Bell View, Belford.  This is part of the North Northumberland Genealogy Group programme.

  • Berwick’s Guild 21/03/2022

    Northumberland Archives Trust (NACT) has organised a series of evening online lectures by academic experts with regional links.  The lecture on Thursday 31 March 2022 is entitled “What did the Guild know? Politics and information in later C18th Berwick” and it will be given by Dr Ian Harris. He will explore the means by which information about London life and politics could be acquired in Berwick at a time when its ruling body, the Guild, had its own powers of government.
