  • Armed Forces Day 27/06/2018

    As part of Armed Forces Day on Saturday 30 June 2018, there will be exhibitions in the Guildhall about Berwick in 1918, Crookham during World War I, and the Rothbury trenches. These have been prepared by Berwick Record Office and the Crookham and Berwick Branch of the Royal  British Legion.  There will also be family activities organised by Berwick Museum and Art Gallery.

    Open 10am – 2pm.  Refreshments available.  Free admission, all welcome.

  • Cataloguing grant success 20/06/2018

    Berwick Record Office is one of nine organisations which have been awarded grants for cataloguing their collections as part of the 2018 Archives Revealed programme of The National Archives.  The grant will fund “Twixt Thistle and Rose : Unlocking Berwick Borough’s Archives”, an ambitious project to recatalogue BRO’s core collection and to amalgamate later uncatalogued deposits of pre 1974 records including Planning and Quarter Sessions records, to form a composite online catalogue and highlight the hidden gems it contains.

  • Lady Waterford bicentenary 09/04/2018

    An open weekend celebrating the life and legacy of Louisa, Marchioness of Waterford, will be held in Ford village on 14th and 15th April 2018. There will be events at Ford Castle and grounds (open 11am-5pm) with exhibitions about the history of the castle and estate and also a Record Office exhibition about Ford in the time of the Waterfords; at Lady Waterford Hall (open 11am-5pm) there will be guided tours at 11.30am and 2.00pm; St Michael & All Angels Church will be open dawn to dusk.

  • Jim Clark weekend 04/04/2018

    As part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the death of racing driver Jim Clark, an Exhibition Weekend (from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th April 2018) at Chirnside Community Centre will include some photographs of Jim Clark provided from the collection held by Berwick Record Office. The exhibition is open 10am – 6.00pm on Friday and Saturday, and 10am – 4pm on Sunday.

    At the Granary Gallery in Berwick, the continuing exhibition, “The Archive of Smith, Berwick”, also includes some rare photographs of Jim Clark. (Open Weds-Sun, 11am-4pm, until 13th May.)

  • Creative writing 21/03/2018

    A Creative Writing Taster Session is being held in the Record Office in Berwick Library on Tuesday 27 March 2018, from 10am to 12 noon. Gilly Beckett will look at ways of developing your ideas, the craft skills to enable you to write creatively, and where to start.  Refreshments included.
