A series of free lectures and films commemorating World War 1 is being presented by Belford & District Hidden History, between January and March 2017: Sun 15 January – 3pm in Ferguson Hall The Battle of the Somme – the original official 1916 documentary silent film. Sun 19 February – 2.30pm at Bell View Resource Centre “Trench Art” – an illustrated lecture and display by Andrew Marriott of Newcastle University. Sun 5 March – 2.30pm at Bell View Resource Centre

Dinah Ireland will give a talk on The Bondagers of Northumberland and South East Scotland, for Bowsden History Group on Monday 3rd October 2016 at 7.30pm. She will discuss the work they did, the costume they wore and the Bondage System under which, together with the ploughmen or hinds, they were employed. In Bowsden Village Hall, TD15 2TW. Visitors £2, to include light refreshments.

To mark the end of the Flodden 500 project, Berwick Museum is hosting an exhibition to show some of the material which has been discovered – archaeological finds alongside 16th century documents, and lots of hand-on activities. It will be on show at the Museum between 18th June and 29th August 2016. On Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 June 2016, there will be an exhibition entitled “Holy Island in the Past” on display in the Village Hall on Holy Island. It is open betweedn 11am and 4pm each day. Admission free. The exhibition is being mounted in connection with the Peregrini project in which the Record Office is participating.
