  • Border marriages 19/04/2021

    An online talk entitled “For Better, For Worse: Irregular Border Marriages on the East Coast” is being given by Linda Bankier, Berwick Archivist, on Thursday 29 April 2021, 7.00 – 8.00pm, as part of Northumberland Archives’ series of talks. Linda looks at where these marriages were held, what they involved, and how they came about. She investigates the priests who performed the ceremonies and discusses the records that survive.

  • Spring Lecture and AGM 27/02/2021

    The FBDMA Spring Lecture this year will be given online via Zoom on Friday 26th March 2021, at 7.00pm.  Linda Bankier, Berwick Archivist, will speak on “Archives Revealed – Unlocking Berwick’s Borough Archives”.  During the last two years, an extensive cataloguing operation, as part of the Twixt Thistle & Rose project, has been providing the means of discovering the contents of the town’s archives.  Linda will explore some of the topics and personal stories which have been brought to light in the course of this work.

  • Archives mini conference 05/02/2021

    On Saturday 6 March 2021, from 10.00am to 12 noon, an online mini conference is being held to celebrate Berwick’s Borough Archives and the cataloguing work undertaken in the Twixt Thistle & Rose project, funded by Archives Revealed.

    “Come and join us for an introduction to Berwick’s unique Borough Archives dating from the 16th to 20th centuries.

    The Twixt Thistle and Rose project has been recataloguing the collection and involving local volunteers in making it more accessible to a wider audience.

  • Talking archives 19/11/2020

    Northumberland Archives will be running a series of free online talks via Zoom over the next couple of months.  The first one takes place on Thursday, 26th November at 7.00pm : 

    An Introduction to Northumberland Archives – by Michael Geary

    Michael is an archivist at Woodhorn and his talk will be a great introduction for people who are thinking of visiting an archive when they reopen or for regular visitors who want to know more.
