As part of Armed Forces Day on Saturday 30 June 2018, there will be exhibitions in the Guildhall about Berwick in 1918, Crookham during World War I, and the Rothbury trenches. These have been prepared by Berwick Record Office and the Crookham and Berwick Branch of the Royal  British Legion.  There will also be family activities organised by Berwick Museum and Art Gallery.

Open 10am – 2pm.  Refreshments available.  Free admission, all welcome.

On Thursday 28 June 2018, Graham Taylor will give a talk, “Fragments”, on his work, created for the Peregrini Project and currently on display in the Museum. Ceramic vessels created by Graham Taylor were inspired by and depict elements of the natural and cultural heritage of Holy Island and the adjacent coast.

Starts at 7pm, at Berwick Museum and Art Gallery.

A planning meeting for Heritage Open Days (which open the doors to historic buildings and explore the streets of Berwick in September) is being held on Wednesday 20 June 2018 in the Parish Centre, Berwick, 7.00 – 9.00pm.  If you would like to volunteer to be involved or have ideas for events, then come along.  Refreshments will be served.

When human remains were found in Durham in 2013, archaeologists discovered that they belonged to the Scottish Soldiers – prisoners of war from the 1650 Battle of Dunbar who were marched to Durham and imprisoned in the then-disused Cathedral and Castle.
